Abstract

Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease characterized by increased levels of glucose in the blood so that it requires proper management, one of which is physical exercise. In carrying out the exercises, the patient needs motivation and self-confidence to be able to perform the recommended physical exercises. Motivation can have an influence on the self-efficacy of type 2 DM patients in doing physical exercise.

Research Objective: To find out the relationship between motivation and self-efficacy in doing physical exercise in type II DM patients at the Kotagede I Health Center in Yogyakarta.

Research Methods: This study uses the correlation study method with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique used cluster random sampling, with sample inclusion criteria. This study used the Treatment Self-Regulation Question (TSRQ) motivational questionnaire, the Generally Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES) questionnaire and the diabetes exercise adherence questionnaire. The research was conducted in January 2023 until completion. The number of samples in this study were 47 respondents using total sampling. Data analysis in this study uses Chi square.

Results: This study showed high motivation of 36 respondents (76.6%), high self-efficacy of 34 (72.3%) and physical exercise (gymnastics) of 37 respondents (78.7%), with the chi square bivariate test obtained the results of the p value 0.001 and Multivariate Logistic Regression test. Self-efficacy variable is the most dominant and has more influence on physical exercise (gymnastics) with an odds ratio (odds ratio) of 74,245 times compared to the motivation variable.Consclusion: There is a significant relationship between motivation and self-efficacy by doing physical exercise (gymnastics) at the Kotagede I Health Center Yogyakarta, with self-efficacy being more dominant and influencing physical exercise (gymnastics).
